Countdown to Election Day: 63 Days
At the “C” Club, we support candidates and policies that promote fiscal responsibility, effective government, and greater economic opportunity across Greater Houston and Texas. In this month’s newsletter, we highlight some of the latest economic and political developments shaping the state — from the continued rise of “Y’all Street” and new business investment to the campaign trail and upcoming midterm convention.
ECONOMIC NEWS: TEXAS MEANS BUSINESS
Y’all Street Keeps Growing
The New York Stock Exchange officially opened the permanent headquarters of NYSE Texas in Dallas last week, with Governor Abbott ringing the closing bell. NYSE Texas already has more than 120 issuers, another sign of Texas’ emergence as a major financial center and key player in capital markets.
Abbott’s Guardrails on Texas Data Centers
Governor Abbott recently announced his directive has paused as many as 1,800 proposed data center projects while the state evaluates their impact. His guidelines call for data centers to protect local water supplies, avoid straining the electric grid, help lower electricity costs and minimize disruptions to neighborhoods and rural communities.
Another Multi-Billion Dollar Company Trades California for Texas
Texas has landed another major corporate relocation. CG Oncology, a publicly traded biotech company valued at roughly $7 billion, has moved its headquarters, fleeing California for the Lone Star State.
POLITICAL PULSE: WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Governor Abbott on the Airwaves
Governor Abbott announced at least $10 million worth of statewide television advertising and the release of a new ad called “What’s at Stake.” The spot draws a sharp contrast with Texas Democrats on taxes, affordability, and public safety, while highlighting Abbott’s commitment to put more money back in Texans’ pockets.
Lt. Governor Patrick Hits the Road
Lt. Governor Patrick is taking his Rural Texas Bus Tour to more than 100 communities, meeting with Texans across the state and making the case for keeping Texas strong, prosperous and free. And if you haven’t already, check out the Lt. Governor’s recently launched Lt. Dan podcast, where he goes behind the headlines each week to discuss the issues, elections and people shaping Texas and the country.
The RNC Comes to Dallas
Texas will take center stage in national politics September 9 and 10 when Republicans gather in Dallas for the RNC’s first-ever midterm convention. President Donald Trump is expected to appear on both nights of the convention and will headline Thursday evening, while Vice President JD Vance headlines Wednesday, with much of the two-day program centered on the Trump administration’s agenda and record heading into the midterms.
AUGUST MEETING SPOTLIGHT
We were honored to welcome Justice Ken Wise of the 14th Court of Appeals as our featured speaker at our August meeting. Now in his 22nd year of service as a Texas judge, Justice Wise has served at both the district and appellate levels and remains deeply involved in shaping and strengthening the Texas judicial system.

HELP KEEP GREATER HOUSTON STRONG
Your support goes directly towards electing strong, pro-business leaders across Greater Houston. We carefully interview and endorse local candidates who understand what it takes to keep our region competitive, and we put resources behind those candidates to help them win. We also invest in initiatives that encourage more Houstonians to get informed, get involved, and get out to vote.
