Last Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff elections officially closed the book on one of the busiest primary seasons Texas Republicans have seen in years. After months of campaigning, voter outreach, debates, and runoff contests across the state, the November ballots have been set. The “C” Club is proud of how each of our endorsed candidates represented our shared commitment to good governance, economic growth, and accountability to the citizens of Houston and Harris County.
As always, we wanted to provide a brief update on how the “C” Club’s endorsed candidates performed in this year’s runoff elections.
Candidates Endorsed by the “C” Club
Congressional Districts
Candidates endorsed by the “C” Club saw successful outcomes in two major Houston-area congressional contests. Alexander Hale secured the Republican nomination in Congressional District 7, and Alex Mealer prevailed in Congressional District 9.
In Congressional District 38, Shelly deZevallos was defeated by Jon Bonck.
Statewide
State Senator Mayes Middleton defeated Congressman Chip Roy in the first open primary for Texas Attorney General in over a decade.
In the Railroad Commissioner runoff, Jim Wright was unsuccessful in his race against Bo French after advancing through a crowded primary field.
Judicial
Several judicial runoffs remained competitive throughout the runoff. Todd Frankfort was successful in the race for the 1st Court of Appeals District, Place 3, while Alison Fox was defeated in the race for Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3.
State Legislative Districts
Stan Stanart won the runoff election in District 126 following a strong showing in the original primary election, which he nearly won outright with 49.3% of the votes.
Houston Area Local Seats
Former Houston City Councilman and Harris County Treasurer Orlando Sanchez won the Republican nomination for Harris County Judge. Harris County Republican Party Chair Cindy Siegel also secured victory in her runoff race, continuing her leadership role within the county party organization.
With the primary and runoff process now complete, attention across Texas politics quickly turns toward the general election. From now until November, voter turnout must remain a steady focus as the “C” Club works to encourage like-minded conservative voters to show up and make their voices heard. As always, the “C” Club will be here to give you the information you need as our endorsed candidates begin preparing for November.
Thank you to everyone who stayed engaged throughout the primary season, supported our endorsed candidates, and participated in this year’s Republican primary runoff election. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to providing additional updates in the months ahead.
